Kind of like having a gas pedal on a V12 engine. But still can be easy to use at the same time. Reaper is, I believe, more powerful than most DAW software.

It is absolutely really Amazing what you can do with DAW software today. Reaper DAW can be like tape, it can be both simple to record with and both really complicated at the same time.

I have not tried Pro Tools yet, but I have tried almost all DAW's on the market and I finally got stuck to Reaper, it just made editing and adding any effects to recorded music both complicated and easier. I really like newest version of Reaper DAW. I do use computers for mastering, not everything I use is old gear. I still use ADAT tapes to get quick ideas down and for Live demo's. No fun at all.īut for me the old affordable gear will still do it for now. I guess we all need to Learn to play our instruments even better than before, and then when you get a better Job or make more money Do Not spend it on new gear. Times are tough for anyone and especially for the dead Music Industry. I think use what you have especially now, since money does not seem to grow on trees. But why would you use ADAT tape machines today ? Not that bad and certainly as good as DAT. Heck I still use Reel to Reel tape decks and even cassette tapes when I need that analog sound.įor ADAT tape machines, well I guess they have a certain digital 1990's sound to them. Transfering old ADAT music to the computer is like going back in time. Listening to some old ADAT tapes that I have done and other artist and it brings nostalgia to mind. I know I get worked up about old formats that should be the way of the Dodo bird by now. there's a captain at the helm enforcing quality control & driving innovation & when the company gets sold off to a larger corporate entity the tendency is for innovation to go out the window, quality control drops in favor of cutting unit costs, often the label is slapped on second-tier products that had nothing to do with the original company. This seems to be a common tale with manufacturers. & as i'm sure others have mentioned, probably made it a necessity to get them marketed.

It looks like the last innovations to come out of Alesis, the HD24 & Andromeda got in just before the buyout. It was then I think Alesis future designs and innovation went out the door when Numark took over and will never be the same innovative company ever again.īut they still hold on to and sell the HD24 ADAT hard drive recorder from 2001, but everything else is History ! I would not buy anything from Alesis now except maybe the HD24.i've had wildly inconsistent experiences with ADAT tape decks, so I can't say i miss em. I am just bummed out that Alesis gave up on any support on the ADAT tape format when it was bought out by Numark company back in 2001.
